Psychopaths are far simpler than you may imagine. They aren’t difficult to understand. Trying to may only lead to more questions. But since you asked…

Let me start by clarifying. Psychopaths are not born; they’re made. There may be some genetic predisposition, but it’s the environment that twists them.

When you hear the word “psychopath,” images of Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, or the BTK killer, Denis Rader, may spring to mind. We can’t get enough of these men and their dark deeds. We want to know what makes them tick, why they do it, and how they choose their victims. It’s all a twisted form of entertainment that drives millions to want more.

I’ll give you more, but just know this, I will no longer recount, in prurient detail, my mother’s horrific renderings, my brother’s sadistic violence, my father’s ineptitude, or my younger brother’s blindness. I’m a daughter of one also. I’m getting up in my years and am tired. One thing I have done is to frame pictures of all of the good people I’ve known throughout my life and they are all over my home. Friendly, smiling faces of the people who nurtured…
